Asian stocks edged up on Thursday on signs the United States and China were on track for a preliminary trade deal, though optimism was tempered by the almost daily shifts in prospects for defusing the damaging tariff war now in its second year. Nikkei is currently trading at 23,290, up 155.17 points by 0.67%.
Precious Metals
Gold futures finished lower Wednesday, pulling back from a near one-month settlement high a day earlier, after a report that trade talks between Beijing and Washington are progressing dulled some haven demand for the metal.
Base Metals
The three-month zinc price on the London Metal Exchange was higher at the close of trading on Wednesday December 4, with upward movement in the price of the galvanizing metal supported by strong turnover, while nickel futures took a divergent path over the afternoon in a 1.6% sell-off.
Crude Oil
Oil prices edged lower in muted trading on Thursday ahead of the start of OPEC meetings later in the day, steadying after the previous session’s steep gains on a sharp drop in U.S. crude inventories and expectations of more output cuts. |
