DJIA and NASDAQ Composite
US markets finished sharply lower on Tuesday, more than reversing their early gains as an unscheduled rate cut from the Federal Reserve strengthened fears of a coronavirus-stoked recession. The Dow Jones Index closed at 25,917, down 785.91 points by 2.94%. The Standard & Poors 500 index closed at 3,003 down 86.86 points by 2.81%. The Nasdaq Composite Index closed at 8,684, down 268.07 points by 2.99%.
FTSE 100
UK markets finished higher on Tuesday again but well off their best levels even after the US central bank, in a rare move in between its regularly-scheduled policy meetings, slashed its short-term interest rates. The FTSE 100 index closed at 6,718, up 63.31 points by 0.95%. |
